Important Travel / AAU Information- Gainesville

Please read this message if you have a son or daughter in grade 3 to 12 who is serious about basketball, and wants to play basketball in high school and potentially beyond.  These days, the AAU and travel basketball scene can be very confusing.  Many clubs and tournaments are not well organized, and with no barrier to entry, it is easy for anyone to call themselves an AAU trainer and collect money from families.  Players and coaches come and go all the time.  Many weekend 'AAU tournaments' charge families serious money to participate in Recreation-caliber competition.

Two Important Points to Consider:

1) In the vast majority of cases, Gainesville Travel & Gainesville Elite traditionally have the top teams and best players.  96% of the boys and girls from Battlefield High & Patriot High varsity teams played with us.  Our Gainesville Elite High School Boys 11/12 team from last year currently has players playing D1, D2 and D3 college basketball at Mary Washington College, Gettysburg College, Fairmont State University, Miami Dade College, and Stanford University, of the PAC 12 Conference.  We encourage you to ask other local AAU clubs how they stack up here.  Gainesville Travel is still the only local club to win National AAU Basketball tournaments and have won hundreds of tournaments in the mid-Atlantic region and all over the country.

2) Gainesville Travel & Gainesville Elite is 100% volunteer-based and no one on our Board earns any income of any kind.  Our fees are regularly 30-70% less than all local and regional "AAU" options, because our leadership is not pocketing your money.  We run entirely 'at cost'.  We are the only organization in the area doing this.  Bottom Line.  We encourage you to ask other AAU leads how much money they are making off of your family, you will be surprised.

If you think you have an advanced basketball player in the 3rd or 4th grade, we are having Spring Pre-Travel tryouts on Sunday, February 12 for 3rd and 4th graders.  Exact details are on our web site at   This is a light-touch, early-age experience to get the kids ready for the many years ahead.  There will be cuts at this tryout.

If your child is in grades 5 thru 8, we already had tryouts for our Travel Teams in October, for our year-long program.  However we may have a spot or two available in specific situations, for our upcoming spring teams.   To learn more, please go to the Travel Section of the Gainesville Basketball web site and look up the coach for your grade, and reach out.  You can also contact our travel director at  .

If you have a male High School student- We will be hosting tryouts for our Boys High School-aged Gainesville Elite teams on Sunday Feb 19.  This will be a very competitive tryout.  Exact Logistics will be posted soon.  Please visit or for more information.  We'll post updates here soon.  We will not be fielding a Girls High School team this Spring.  Girls High School players should follow up with their High School Coach for recommendations on where to play this spring.
